What do you do to relax?

In my previous post here I let everyone know that I’m ready to make some changes.

The majority of today however, I was feeling overwhelmed, stressed, scared and sad. Anxiety radiates throughout my body paralyzing me. I feel anxious about everything I should be doing, resulting in me doing nothing! Accomplishing nothing just causes more anxiety.

It’s now 6:00pm and thankfully I feel a bit calmer. But my stomach is still in knots. I have a hard time getting rid of that. When I’m worried, my stomach twists and turns and refuses to settle down. Not nausea, but a real unsettled feeling.

I try to control it by controlling my breathing. That helps a little, but I think the real solution is to calm my mind. My thoughts are what’s making my body react that way. At times, I just can’t shut my mind off. Sounds familiar to a lot of you I bet.

I want to look into an exercise, meditation or relaxation routine. It’s been years since I’ve exercised regularly, but at one point, I really enjoyed pilates and yoga. I loved yoga even though admittedly, I wasn’t very good at it. The toll it took on my knees unfortunately caused me stop.

I’d like to explore yoga again. By chance has anyone used yoga on Wii Fit? I don’t know if that really counts as yoga, but I would love to hear your thoughts on it. I’ll do a little research this weekend to see what else I can find.

I’ll look into other ways to reduce the stress and anxiety I experience as well.

In the meantime, if you would like to share your stress reduction techniques or exercise routines, please leave a comment. I would love to hear them!

  1. I am anxious to hear these comments. I need to know some ways as well.
No matter how hard we try, stress finds it's way into our lives. (((((HUGS))))

  2. If something is bothering me that I can't do anything about, I read novels. I have a few favorite authors and they tend to take my mind off of life. Sort of an escape. I had to do a presentation the other day in front of about 250 people. I would breath in for seven seconds, hold it for four, and let it out for 8 seconds. Do it four times and you feel calmer. I saw that on Oprah years ago. I also use lavender essential oil and put just a small drop on my fingers and rub my temples with it and close my eyes (make sure you aren't allergic) I sometimes burn it on a candle. Just put a few drops on the wick. I do something fun with a friend. We need other people in our lives to do fun things with, and we especially need one good friend we can share our troubles with. And I turn it over to God. I read scripture that reassures me and I pray.
